What is music?
Wikipedia says,"An art whose medium is sound".
And a famous encyclopedia says,"Art concerned with combining vocal or instrumental sounds for beauty of form or emotional expression, usually according to cultural standards of rhythm, melody, and, in most Western music, harmony.
People who enjoy music has no age bar. From toddlers to nannies enjoy the harmony. Also referred as,"Feast to the Ears".
Perception of music is understanding music and we react/perceive to it.
According to the theory of rhythm perception, the perception of music involves neural activity i.e.the motor system, just as much as the sensory system where we touch and feel.
It postulates that a 'beat'(basic unit of time in music) is actually perceived a a movement.
Visual information is not necessary for the effect, indicating that it likely reflects a strong, early-developing interaction between auditory and vestibular information in the human nervous system. The theory then suggests that because a beat is perceived as a movement, the activation of a stereotyped behavior such as tapping your foot, tapping fingers, nodding/swaying head in time with the beat is a natural extension of the way motor ans sensory systems often work together to produce a percept.
